New Year's Resolutions - Making Them Work!
Thursday, December 10, 2009
Most of us have set New Year’s resolutions for ourselves in the past and had the experience of not sticking with them. This year, we’ve put together some expert tips to help you achieve your goals. Good luck!
Know yourself
If your resolution is to get fit and you hate going to the gym with a passion, don’t plan on signing up for an expensive gym program. Target other ways to increase physical activity, such as walking to the shops and carrying the shopping home, or gardening, bushwalking and manual labour.

Take baby steps

Lifestyle magazines often carry inspirational stories about people who’ve just completed their first 10 km run, half-marathon or even marathon — people who months earlier couldn’t run around the block. These people all share something in common — they didn’t start by lacing up their shoes and launching themselves into a 10 km run, only to injure themselves and never try again. Most of them started by walking!

By walking regularly they prepared their muscles and tendons for running, and started an exercise habit. Then by adding 15 seconds of light jogging into their walks here and there, they worked up to a point where they could walk and jog for a few minutes alternately. Eventually, they could go out and jog for 15 or 20 minutes. Next thing, they were lining up for their first fun run. Often it took months, but by setting small achievable targets, these people were always focused on a goal, and were rewarded when they reached it. Taking baby steps like this and setting smaller goals is a good way to move towards a big goal.

Don’t overwhelm your willpower

Some experts believe that we shouldn’t overwhelm our willpower and self-discipline by attempting to make too many lifestyle changes at once. Certainly, I’m sure we’ve all had friends who’ve tried to quit smoking, lose weight and get fit all at once and who’ve failed. Far better to start exercising your willpower in the way that you would start exercising your muscles — carefully and with small challenges — that way you can gradually develop inner strength.

Record your progress

Keep a diary or a log of your progress — it will serve as a reminder of how far you’ve come and give you encouragement if you’re feeling disheartened. Psychologists have shown that keeping a record can aid compliance in many tasks, such as weight loss or fitness goals. Take time to review your goals and adjust them if necessary as you go. Make sure to reward yourself with something healthy when you achieve your mini goals.

Engage others

Enlist the support of those around you. If family, friends and work colleagues are aware of your goals, they’re much more likely to be supportive and to encourage you to stay on track when you’re struggling.  Find a workout mate or a buddy to quit smoking or lose weight with. You’re more likely to keep a workout date if you’re doing the activity with a friend, or you’re a member of a club. For weight loss, there is the Celebrity Slim members section of the website along with the friendly staff at Priceline that provide support and inspiration to help ease your journey towards your goal.

  • Because the Celebrity Slim™ program is based on a reduced kilojoule diet, we do not recommend it for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding as the diet may not contain enough nutrients to support the needs of both mum and baby.
  • If you’re sticking with the quantities suggested on the Celebrity Slim™ programme and still seem to be hungry all the time, there are a few strategies you can use to manage your hunger. First of all, make sure you are truly hungry and not just wanting to eat out of habit – a trap that many of us fall into. If you are still truly hungry, try some of these suggestions:

    • Drink more water with your meals and snacks
    • Increase the portion size of each meal and snack by about 10% for a few days, and then slowly reduce it if you can
    • Add a small handful of allowed nuts with a glass of water to each allowable snack meal
    • Cut up allowable vegetables into sticks or chunks, such as celery, carrot and capsicum, keep them in the fridge, and munch on them when you get hungry
    • Add a small amount of olive oil, about 5ml, to you Celebrity Slim™ Shake. The oil will slow your digestion and help you to feel fuller for longer.
  • The answer is yes. You can download the letter by clicking on the link below:

  • If you find weight is creeping back on, maybe because you’ve been a little relaxed with your eating, simply go back on the Celebrity Slim™ program.

  • Because the Celebrity Slim™ program is a different way of eating, some people can become a bit constipated. If this happens to you there are several things you can do: Ensure you are drinking plenty of water – at least 2 litres per day; make sure you are eating plenty of allowable vegetables – at least 4 serves a day.

  • One of the ingredients in Celebrity Slim™ shakes, soups and bars is ‘skim milk powder’ which does contain lactose, so the shakes are not suitable if you have a lactose intolerance.

  • Some of the flavours used in Celebrity Slim™ may contain traces of gluten so we would recommend that if you have this condition Celebrity Slim™ would not be suitable.

  • Celebrity Slim™ is classified as a formulated dietary food and is designed to be used by people over 16 years of age. While all of the ingredients used in Celebrity Slim™ are natural, we would not recommend its consumption by children under 16 years.
  • Some dieters use meal replacement shakes as their only food to lose weight quickly. While this may work in the short term it is not a balanced way to eat for any longer than a few days. We always recommend combining Celebrity Slim™ shakes with healthy balanced meals and snacks to ensure you are getting a good intake of fresh food nutrients every day to help you lose weight and stay healthy.
  • Celebrity Slim™ Shakes are simply a delicious high protein food. They are formulated using a blend of common food ingredients and are perfectly safe for use by normal healthy adults.
  • One of the wonderful things about the Celebrity Slim program is that correcting your abnormal body chemistry almost always removes the cravings for sweet and fatty foods. One of Celebrity Slim's main goals is to normalise the way your body handles glucose, a type of blood sugar. Once this happens, the food cravings disappear by themselves.

The Celebrity Slim program guides you on how to select the correct foods as well as to gently change undesirable lifestyle habits. Phase 1 of the program starts you on a rapid-burn phase. Early success will prove to you that you can achieve your body image goals. Celebrity Slim will gently help you to retrain the eating and lifestyle habits which caused your problem in the first place. Retraining your eating habits is not as difficult as it might seem when you take it a step at a time.

While you will need to be more active in order to maintain your new body shape, exercise need not include punishing sessions at the gym; walking regularly at a reasonable pace can be as effective in the long term. Just as importantly, you will need to consider incidental exercise; for example, take the stairs instead of the lift or park the car 10 minutes away from your destination so that you are becoming more active in your day-to-day activities. Celebrity Slim will teach you how to make these subtle changes. Although these small changes may not seem like much, over a year, they can make a significant difference to the amount of energy you burn.
  • Apart from using Celebrity Slim shakes to help you lose weight, there are other nutrients you should consider that can help boost weight loss, and improve your general health and wellbeing.

We recommend you consider using the following:

    • High quality multivitamin & mineral formula - while the Celebrity Slim formulas contain a specific amount of vitamins and minerals, to ensure optimum health a quality multivitamin & mineral formula is also good insurance.

    • Fibre such as Psyllium husks - they are a great source of fibre and can help to keep you regular. Some people can become a little constipated when they change their eating habits to Celebrity Slim. If you suffer from this problem, we recommend adding a dessert spoon to your morning shake. Psyllium husks can be purchased from most supermarkets and health food stores. Make sure you choose natural psyllium husks, as most commercial types of fibre have added sugar.
  • One of the great things about Celebrity Slim is that your results are mainly diet dependent. That is, you don't have to do any real exercise to achieve your goals. The really good news is that if you do combine Celebrity Slim with regular exercise, your rate of fat loss will increase significantly!

Not only that, but exercise will also give you a whole range of additional benefits. Now we're not saying you must exercise - just the fact that you are getting down to a healthier weight is fantastic. However we do recommend you consider some reasonable form of regular exercise - it will make your results that much better.

So let's assume you decide to start exercising regularly. What should you actually do about it? If you already follow a regular exercise program. This is a good time to review your progress and perhaps re-align it to help ensure you burn off even more fat.
  • Celebrity Slim works by restricting carbohydrates and overall kilojoules in your diet which stimulates your metabolism to burn more fat. Eating smaller meals more often throughout the day is also important to boost your metabolism. We ask you to aim for 5 - 6 smaller meals, rather than the traditional 2 or 3 larger meals. The result of changing to this way of eating is that you will lose weight.
  • The two main types of diabetes mellitus:
Type 1 diabetes requiring insulin medication – This type is usually caused by the body’s inability to produce the hormone insulin which helps process blood sugars
Type 2 diabetes also known as adult-onset diabetes – is often the result of lifestyle factors including diet and obesity and involves the body’s inability to process blood sugars effectively.

    RECOMMENDATION:

Type 1 diabetics should not use Celebrity Slim and should adhere closely to their doctor’s dietary recommendations.
Type 2 diabetics can often benefit from the CS program but must first receive written clearance from their doctor. Blood sugar levels and medications should be closely monitored and adjusted if necessary while a patient is on the CS program.
